CAA Hiring Two Mosaic Assistants as Comedy Agents (Exclusive) The Hollywood Reporter

CAA isn’t wasting any time in beefing up its comedy ranks after losing 11 agents to rival UTA in early April. The agency is hiring two assistants from management-production company Mosaic, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, and will promote the duo to agents.

Luke Esselen, assistant to Michael Lasker, and Sam Bringardner, assistant to Molly Mandel, are leaving Mosaic and will join CAA’s motion picture talent department. Despite the assistant titles, the duo are said to have taken on duties more akin to full-fledged manager-producers at Mosaic.

“Luke and Sam have already established great reputations, and we are proud to have them join our talent department,” a rep for CAA told THR in a statement. “They will be among the dozens of agents throughout the company who work with our world-class roster of comedy clients.”

Indeed, despite the recent defection of Jason Heyman and a group of agents that brought Chris Pratt, Will Ferrell and dozens of comedy stars to UTA, CAA still has a formidable roster of top comedy talents, including Jimmy Fallon, Jim Parsons, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Lorne Michaels and writer-director Paul Feig

The agency is holding a retreat this week at La Costa, during which the new hires are expected to be announced.
