Comedian Mike Epps detained with loaded gun at Indianapolis airport
Comedian Mike Epps was detained at Indianapolis International Airport on Sunday (March 5, 2023) after a loaded gun was found in his backpack, reports claim.
The 52-year-old Upshaws actor was at the airport on his way to a live performance in his home state over the weekend.
Following Epps’ gig, reports have only just emerged about his detainment after a revolver was allegedly discovered in one of his bags.
It was an eventful Sunday for Epps after he was detained by airport security at the Indianapolis International Airport before a live concert.
As reported by Indy Star, the Indianapolis native was carrying a loaded gun in one of his bags while trying to pass through security.
A police officer responded to a report of a possible firearm when a Smith & Wesson .38-caliber was discovered in the comedian’s backpack. There were no bullets in the chamber.
According to the police report, Epps said that he forgot the loaded gun was with him, the publication added.
No charges were brought against Epps for gun incident
Epps wasn’t arrested and no charges were filed at this time. However, his gun and the ammunition were taken as a piece of evidence by authorities and an investigation has been launched.
The report was sent to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office to determine whether any charges should be brought against the actor and producer.
Epps is headlining a comedy tour
The comedian is busy with his nationwide Straight Jokes No Chaser comedy tour which continues on March 10 in New Orleans, followed by stops in Nashville, Detroit and Memphis.
He is set to make a cameo appearance in the Amazon Prime series I’m Virgo after landing small roles in other television series such as Stumptown and #BlackAF.
Epps currently stars as the patriarch of the Upshaw family, Bernie Upshaw, in the sitcom The Upshaws. Moreover, he was cast in the sports comedy The Underdoggs, which is currently in production.
